Men of Valor Three-Day Intensive Workshops
If you are serious about making a change in your life and are seeking a treatment program provided by the top Christian experts in the sexual addiction field, we are here to help you. At Faithful & True, our MEN OF VALOR 3-Day Intensive Workshops are the most effective and affordable workshops in the country for men dealing with addictive and compulsive sexual behavior. Our VIRTUAL (via ZOOM video technology) and In-Person Men of Valor Intensive Workshops are both three-day events of teaching and small group interaction led by Dr. Greg Miller, M.Div., D.Min./Director of Faithful & True Workshops with video teaching by the founder of our Men of Valor program, Dr. Mark Laaser, M.Div., Ph.D. Although Dr. Laaser passed away in September 2019, Faithful & True is dedicated to continuing his work and honoring his legacy through the intensive 3-Day Workshops and counseling that we do at Faithful & True.
The focus of the workshop is to teach men practical steps to acquire sexual purity and also to help them understand the root causes of their sexual acting out. Our vision is that the workshop will support men to grow emotionally and spiritually. We believe it is only in a relationship with God that any of us can truly heal. The workshop format is flexible, depending on the needs of the group (which can range from 24 to 35 men), but includes a mixture of lecture, group discussion, and individual reflection time and assignments. Participants break into smaller groups, with each group led by a trained Faithful & True facilitator. Dr. Greg Miller, M.Div., D.Min. is the facilitator of the workshop with video teaching by Dr. Mark Laaser. Additional Faithful & True counselors also participate in our workshop sessions by leading our small group breakout sessions.
These workshops are for men struggling with sexual behaviors that they are having trouble stopping. These men may or may not see themselves as sexual “addicts” (a term that is often misunderstood). Men at our workshops may be dealing with a wide variety of sexual behaviors — ranging from fantasy, pornography use, and masturbation… to affairs, sexual encounters, same sex attraction and a wide variety of fetish behaviors. We will work with men who are struggling with homosexual attraction, but, our focus is on the addictive sexual behaviors and not with issues of orientation. As we say, the symptoms or manifestations of sexual struggle may vary, but the underlying spiritual and emotional issues and recovery processes are universal.
The workshops are great both for people who are new to recovery or for those who have been in recovery for various lengths of time and who, for different reasons, haven’t yet been able to achieve successful sobriety. Some men participate in the workshop looking for added insights and awareness. Dr. Laaser firmly believed that the workshops have been transformational in the lives of the men who have attended. The term we hear most often from workshop attendees is “life changing.” Our new VIRTUAL Men of Valor Workshop format (using ZOOM video technology) has been a “game changer”, because it provides the same effective teaching and a substantial financial savings by eliminating travel, hotel, meals and rental car expenses. *NOTE: THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE THAT ALL REMAINING 2020 MEN OF VALOR 3-DAY WORKSHOPS WILL BE HELD “VIRTUALLY” USING ZOOM PROFESSIONAL LEVEL VIDEO TECHNOLOGY. Once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and social gathering has been deemed safe, we will return to offering in-person and virtual workshops.
Here are some of the comments from the men who participated in the APRIL, MAY, JUNE, JULY & AUGUST VIRTUAL Men of Valor Workshops:
“Honestly… I would recommend the virtual workshop via zoom MORE to men than the in-person one. ZOOM was easy and effective to use. Many men see the computer as a problem, but seeing it as a part of their healing can help see that the object isn’t the issue, but the patterns of thinking and mindsets driving our beliefs and actions are core to what we end up doing. While I would love to be in-person, there is something therapeutic for me with being able to connect in this format as an option. Also, even if travel gets back to normal, this helps focus the costs on our treatment and help, not on travel and lodging.” – Brian C.
“I felt the workshop teachings were just as effective over ZOOM as they would’ve been in person… I’ve never had this kind of understanding of my past and I know it will better assist me going forward.” – Taylor D.
“I finally feel loved! Thank you, Dr. Greg Miller, Debbie Laaser, Beth Miller, Chris Hardesty and others for working through your plan so that I can be free!” – Dennis J.
“I have spent a good bit of time and money on my recovery, and it has been pretty successful. I have over 8 years of freedom from porn, and my marriage is doing pretty well, after counseling, CR meetings, group meetings, full disclosure, etc. Your workshop, however, has taken me to a new, and deeper place of healing. You ‘spoke my language’, and presented very comprehensively and clearly; your workshop was excellent.” – Chuck R.
“… the workshop content was unaffected by the use of ZOOM… it was still massively powerful.” – Doug T.
“If I had this workshop training as an 18 year-old, my life and marriage would have been more beautiful.” – Jack S.
“This has the potential to be the most life-changing experience I’ve ever had. I can honestly say I’ve never felt more hopeful about my future, both individually, and with my wife. The materials we were given will be vital for my growth. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this experience! – Pierce M.
“Greg Miller is so knowledgeable, passionate and gifted! Where does he get his energy!” – Jon L.
“Excellent experience! I now understand much better the “why” of my problem. Thank you for allowing me to be led by men (and women) of faith who clearly understand this addiction.” – Michael B.
“Wonderful! Exceeded my expectations!” – Thomas P.
“I felt Dr. Greg was talking directly to me. Everything he said seemed to apply to my struggle. This has been a life changing experience!” – Mauricio L.
“This was my first Virtual Workshop and I was skeptical that it would be as effective as ‘face-to-face’, BUT, I found it to be quite effective! I have attended the Every Man’s Battle conference and the Men of Valor Virtual Workshop did so much more to address the underlying hurts from my past.” – Jim M.
“The life egg exercise was super powerful, emotional, insightful and a much needed tool to understand how your past has had an impact on your life up to now.” – Robert V.
Why should I go? How will this workshop help me?
At the MEN OF VALOR workshop, you will learn about the spiritual, emotional, and physical basis for addiction. You will be helped to understand the inter-relationship between sexual sin, bondage, and addiction. You will learn all this in the context of a supportive environment, surrounded by men who understand your struggle, because they have been there themselves. Most importantly, you will leave with not only a new resolve, but a practical plan for sobriety and recovery.
The workshop will bring you much more than new insight. If all we needed for recovery was more knowledge, then reading books about recovery would be enough to solve the problem. Obviously, that is not the case. We need guidance and support that can only come in the context of honest and open interactions. The workshop size is limited to 25-35 participants (with significant time spent in smaller groups of around five participants). This small size allows ample time for questions and discussion, even in the large group presentations. Keep in mind that unlike other programs, we offer an “intensive” workshop, not just a seminar.
Here is our promise: Due to the focused and intensive nature of the workshop, as well as the expertise of the facilitators and counselors, attendees make great strides forward in their recovery. In fact, almost without exception, men who attend describe this workshop as “life-changing.” Our experience is that men make more progress in the three day workshop than they make from 6 to 12 months of weekly therapy with an individual counselor.
What if I’m a counselor? Will referring people to this workshop compete with what I am trying to do in our individual work?
We work very hard to ensure that our teaching and treatment recommendations will build on the work that men are doing with the therapists who refer them to us. We see ourselves as partners, not competitors with individual therapists. Our goal is to enhance the therapy process, increasing insight and motivation to work toward ongoing recovery. Men who come back from the workshop will be much more motivated to do the internal work they need to do to make change happen in their lives and marriages.
